Biography

Susanne Schaffert, PhD has been a member of BioNTech’s Supervisory Board since 2026. She has held numerous leadership positions in the pharmaceutical industry over the years and has focused on Oncology most of her career. She began her professional career in 1995 as a sales representative at Novartis Germany and subsequently took on various management roles, including Global Brand Director and General Manager Oncology Germany as well as Head of Europe Novartis Oncology. She also served as CEO and Chair of AAA (Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company). From 2019 to 2022, she served as CEO Novartis Oncology and was a member of the executive board at Novartis AG. Currently, Susanne Schaffert is member of the Board of Partners of E. Merck KG, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Merck Healthcare KGaA, member of the Supervisory Board of Merck KGaA, and a member of other supervisory bodies, including Novo Holdings A/S and ARTBio Inc. Susanne Schaffert holds a degree in chemistry and earned her doctorate at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Erlangen.
